Nothing by mouth for 30 minutes. No food or drink 30 minutes prior to collecting specimen.
Swab the inside of BOTH cheeks 10 times & shake container 10 times.
Write name, date of birth, and sample collection date on the tube and place back in the kit.
You will receive a Bionano Laboratories collection kit via FedEx.
Depending on what test(s) your health care provider ordered, each kit includes one or two buccal swabs.
If you received the kit with two swabs, we likely need two swabs from the person the testing was ordered for. Use one swab per cheek (one on the left side and one on the right side). This will ensure that each swab has plenty of DNA. Use the other two swabs for each biological parent.

Once you’ve collected the sample and packaged it properly, you can drop the kit at any FedEx carrier location. You can also call us at 801.931.6200 and we can schedule a FedEx pickup directly from your home. Our team at Bionano Laboratories will usually receive the kit within 2–4 days.
